Have we forgotten how to be social?

I was at my daughter’s gymnastics class, and it happened to be a “fun” day. There weren’t enough kids to join into the parachute game, so they asked the kids who were watching to join in. There were a number of kids, just sitting there with us adults in the freezing cold gymnastics room, and I thought, “Wow, just watch them run up and join in!” I couldn’t believe it, not one child took the chance to jump in and have fun! You know what they were doing? Playing on iPads and mobile phones! (more…)

Police warning about notes on cars…

I got this email today from my beautiful friend who I have known since I was five, so yes I can trust her. At first I thought it was a scam because it looked suss, so I texted her to see if it really was from her. “Yep,” she said “It’s worth the read”. Ok, I thought, so I did.

I don’t know if it originates from the US, but it’s worth taking note. (more…)

The lollipop that became a weapon!

We went to a birthday party the other day, and the traditional “lollibag” took on a whole new meaning. It was an oversized plastic “chuppa chup”, (pictured above), with mini lollipops inside it. Oh, and it doubles as a money box when all the sugar fixes on a stick are consumed! It came in an awesome oversized wrapper, in the same design as an actual “chuppa chup” wrapper. (Don’t know where that is right now!). To add to the delight, there was also a jar of jelly beans, just in case we didn’t quite get enough hyperactivity out of the first lot! (more…)

The Ultimate iPad Case…

If your kids have to use an iPad for school, be it primary or secondary school, please read this post. My son started Year 7 this year and his school requires the kids to have and use an iPad. Which is great, in theory, however have you ever tried to complete a homework assignment on it? Crazy! (more…)

What kind of a mother lets her son do this?

photo-13

“What kind of a mother lets her son do this?”, was the question I asked myself over and over again as I sat in my warm car and watched, as my son battled it out on the rain drenched footy field. The weather was atrocious! I had never before seen a game where the kids actually got cleaner as the game went on, thanks to the pounding, relentless rain which washed their arms and legs but made sure that the mud that would stain their white shorts for days, got thicker and thicker!  (more…)

The loom bracelet that saved the game…

Last night, there was an almighty battle between two arch rival teams in the game of AFL. Collingwood vs Carlton. Always packs out the ground, (except for last night because the game was at the odd time of 7.10 and it was raining and bitterly cold!), as they are two of the biggest teams in the AFL. As with most teams, their fans are fanatical, and bitter enemies until the end. (Except for my little girl who at the age of three went along to such a game wearing a Collingwood jumper, as we barrack for Collingwood, but waving a Carlton flag, as her cousins barrack for Carlton!) Are schools branding our kids?

A close friend of mine, told me that her son had been taken out of class to meet with the school counsellor, without her knowledge. Her son had been retaliating lately, to other children hurting him physically and verbally. He is a beautiful boy, who is very often misunderstood. He beats to his own drum and has a wonderful, creative imagination that thinks outside the box, on a wavelength not explored by the average child. He is artistic, sensitive, fun and one of the best climbers I have ever seen in my life! Move over spiderman! He doesn’t fit in with the “norm”, and why should he? (more…)

Sometimes, it’s ok to end it…

How many times have you found yourself in a relationship that was just no good for you? You are attracted to this person for all the wrong reasons, your heart is telling you one thing but your head is screaming at you that the relationship is doing you more harm than good. But still, you can’t leave it behind. Unfortunately, it’s a common trait of human nature that can happen not only in relationships, but also in friendships. (more…)

Self Acceptance… It’s Possible!

Totally self absorbed in the madness of getting lunches ready and juggling 55,000 other things that had to get done before school and work this morning, I heard a news article being featured on the morning show, on the TV in the background. It spoke about a 19 year old girl, who shared a photo of herself (that’s her in the photo above), cellulite and all, and stated that she loved it! It caught my attention because it was real. (more…)
